Living Inside the Story God Created YOU For | Prayer on Isaiah 44

26:52   | 08-06-2020

When you can hear God speaking specifically to YOU in this passage, he reminds you who HE is and who YOU are and the real story your life is in. Praying through God’s words in this passage is very powerful. Isaiah 44:1–8 NIV 1 “But now listen, Jacob, my servant, Israel, whom I have chosen. 2 This is what the LORD says— he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid, Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. 3 For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. 4 They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams. 5 Some will say, ‘I belong to the LORD’; others will call themselves by the name of Jacob; still others will write on their hand, ‘The LORD’S,’ and will take the name Israel. 6 “This is what the LORD says— Israel’s King and Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. 7 Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people, and what is yet to come— yes, let them foretell what will come. 8 Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.” Isaiah 44:22–24 NIV 22 I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” 23 Sing for joy, you heavens, for the LORD has done this; shout aloud, you earth beneath. Burst into song, you mountains, you forests and all your trees, for the LORD has redeemed Jacob, he displays his glory in Israel. 24 “This is what the LORD says— your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the LORD, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself, Follow Dave Cover on Twitter @davecover.  Like this content? Believing What The I AM Says About You | Prayer on Isaiah 43

26:50   | 08-04-2020

When you can hear God speaking specifically to YOU in this passage, you can replace your fear and anxiety with God’s presence and love. Praying through God’s words in this passage is very powerful. Isaiah 42:5–7 NIV 5 This is what God the LORD says— the Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it: 6 “I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, 7 to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. Isaiah 43:1 NIV But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. Isaiah 43:3 NIV “For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;” Isaiah 43:4 NIV “Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you,” Isaiah 43:5 NIV “Do not be afraid, for I am with you;” Isaiah 43:7 NIV …“Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” Isaiah 43:10–13 NIV 10 “You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. 11 I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior. 12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God. 13 Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?” Follow Dave Cover on Twitter @davecover.  Like this content? How to Not Be Afraid | Prayer on Isaiah 41

20:14   | 07-30-2020

When you can hear God speaking specifically to YOU in this passage, you can replace fear and anxiety with God’s presence and care. Isaiah 41:8–10 NIV 8 “But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend, 9 I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. 10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:13–14 NIV 13 For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. 14 Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you,” declares the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. Isaiah 41:18–20 NIV 18 I will make rivers flow on barren heights, and springs within the valleys. I will turn the desert into pools of water, and the parched ground into springs. 19 I will put in the desert the cedar and the acacia, the myrtle and the olive. I will set junipers in the wasteland, the fir and the cypress together, 20 so that people may see and know, may consider and understand, that the hand of the LORD has done this, that the Holy One of Israel has created it. Follow Dave Cover on Twitter @davecover.  Like this content? How to have a bigger concept of God | Prayer on Isaiah 40

19:17   | 07-28-2020

LIke Psalm 81, these verses in Isaiah 40 are God speaking to his people. We can get a bigger/truer picture/concept of God’s power, wisdom and care by lifting up our eyes and experience God speaking to us. Isaiah 40:12 NIV Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Isaiah 40:18 NIV With whom, then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken him? Isaiah 40:21 NIV Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? Isaiah 40:25–28 NIV 25 “To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. 27 Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God”? 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. Isaiah 40:31 NIV but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. Follow Dave Cover on Twitter @davecover.  Like this content? What Will Satisfy You? | Prayer on Psalm 81:8-16

22:43   | 07-23-2020

Our lives are always a miserable prison when God gives us over to follow our own stubborn hearts. But we can find true satisfaction by listening to his word and submitting to him. This Psalm is the voice of God to us through the prophet Asaph. Psalm 81:8–16 ESV 8 Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me! 9 There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god. 10 I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. 11 “But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. 12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels. 13 Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! 14 I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes. 16 But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” Follow Dave Cover on Twitter @davecover.  Like this content? Worship In the Very Presence of God | Prayer on Psalm 84

21:36   | 07-16-2020

How can we worship in the very presence of God? The ancient Temple in the Old Testament is a picture of how we worship Him in Spirit and truth when we enter his presence through Jesus. Psalm 84 ESV A PSALM OF THE SONS OF KORAH. 1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! 2 My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. 3 Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Selah 5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. 7 They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion. 10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. 12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you! Follow Dave Cover on Twitter @davecover.  Like this content? Feasting on the Abundance of God | Prayer on Psalm 36

25:16   | 07-14-2020

We can see our sin for what it really is when we compare it to feasting on the abundance of God. Psalm 36 ESV 1 Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart; there is no fear of God before his eyes. 2 For he flatters himself in his own eyes that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated. 3 The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit; he has ceased to act wisely and do good. 4 He plots trouble while on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not reject evil. 5 Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. 6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O LORD. 7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house, and you give them drink from the river of your delights. 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light. 10 Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart! 11 Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. 12 There the evildoers lie fallen; they are thrust down, unable to rise. Follow Dave Cover on Twitter @davecover.  Like this content? The Fountain of Living Water | Prayer on Jeremiah 2:11-13, 19

18:10   | 07-09-2020

What would you exchange for the glory of God? The strongest motivation not to sin is when we understand the stupidity of turning from God as our only true satisfaction.  Jeremiah 2:11–13 ESV 11 But my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit. 12 Be appalled, O heavens, at this; be shocked, be utterly desolate, declares the LORD, 13 for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water. Romans 1:22–23 NIV 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles. Psalm 16:4 NAS The sorrows of those who have bartered for another god will be multiplied; Psalm 36:9 ESV For with you is the fountain of life; John 4:13–14 NIV 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” Jeremiah 2:19 NIV Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the LORD your God and have no awe of me,” declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty. Follow Dave Cover on Twitter @davecover.  Like this content?
